Prepare for El Сapitan

So, since October we can download the new Mac OS X 10. 11 operating system El Capitan. In this review, we will tell you how to prepare your Mac for the update.

Before we start, check if your Mac supports the system. Quick tip: if you already have Yosemite, you can install El Capitan without any verifications. If you have Mavericks, it’s better to check. Here are the requirements:

  • iMac: Mid 2007 or newer
  • MacBook: Aluminium Late 2008; Early 2009 or newer
  • MacBook Air: Late 2008 or newer
  • MacBook Pro: 13-inch, Mid 2009 or newer; 15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or newer; 17-inch, Late 2007 or newer
  • Mac Mini: Early 2009 or newer
  • Mac Pro: Early 2008 or newer
  • Xserve: Early 2009

Frankly speaking, they are quite low as for Apple.

So, here are our recommendations, if you are not a fan of hard system reset. Anyway, there is a much simpler way to delete junk files and have a brand new operating system that will work magic.

First of all, delete unnecessary applications with all its support files. Our free App Cleaner is a great tool to do this. Launch the app, scan the system and select those apps and files you want to delete. That simple.

Further, let’s clean caches and other junk files. ClearDisk can do it in 3 clicks.

Next, you have to check your drive for big and unnecessary files. This can be easily done with our app Disk Expert in 5-10 min depending on size of your hard drive.

Here in a form of intuitive pie chart and list of biggest files, you can understand how much space every item takes. If any of them is not required anymore, you can move it into the Trash right from the app.

And, last, but not the list. Duplicates. It’s always useful to check your Mac for duplicate content.

Another app – Duplicates Expert.

Drag and drop folders or the whole drive. Within several minutes app will find all duplicate files: photos, videos, music and even similar folders. After being scanned, all these files can be simply deleted.

So, these are main points that should be performed to be ready for a brand new piece of art from Cupertino guys. Here’s video review of the article.
