App Update Monitor helps you see available updates for all your Mac apps in one place - without interrupting your workflow.
How to use App Update Monitor
App Update Monitor acts as your personal “radar” for software. Once installed, it lives in your Menu Bar and silently checks thousands of app databases in the background.
Using the app is simple:
- Step 1. Launch
- Install and launch App Update Monitor.
- The app will automatically scan your installed software.
- Step 2. Review available updates
If updates are available, you’ll see:- App name
- Your current version
- The latest available version
- A direct link to open the app for updating
- Step 3. Update from the official source
Depending on where the app was originally sourced, the process differs slightly:- If the app was downloaded from the App Store, you’ll see an “Open in App Store” button. Click it to go directly to the app’s store page, then click Update to begin the installation.
- If the app was downloaded directly from a developer’s website, you’ll see a “Launch App” button. Most modern apps will automatically prompt you to update as soon as they open. If no prompt appears, click the App Name in the top menu bar and select “Check for Updates…” to trigger the download manually.
Why can’t I just click “Update All”?
A common question we receive is: “Why can’t this app just update everything for me in one go?” The answer lies in Apple’s App Store guidelines and Sandboxing rules.
Apple requires that apps downloaded from the App Store operate in an isolated environment. This means Apple does not allow third‑party apps to:
- Trigger bulk updates in the Mac App Store.
- Install App Store updates silently.
- Modify App Store update behavior.
App Update Monitor’s role is to detect updates and guide you to the correct source while respecting Apple’s sandboxing rules.
